Red Dragons blanks Canton 2-0

CANTON, N.Y. – Sophomore goalie Rachael Farmer (Grand Island/Niagara Jr. Purple Eagles) registered 21 saves and posted her first career shutout as the Cortland women's ice hockey team won its fourth consecutive game with a 2-0 non-conference victory at SUNY Canton Tuesday afternoon. The game was originally scheduled for last Saturday but was moved to Tuesday due to inclement weather.

Junior Charlie Calamari (Barrington, IL/Chicago Fury) and sophomore Emily Rose (Clayton/Syracuse Nationals) each netted her second goal of the season for the Red Dragons (6-7-2). Sophomore Miranda Kolb (Watertown/Syracuse Nationals) notched her team-high ninth assist, while sophomore Emily King (Buffalo/Buffalo Regals) recorded her fifth assist of the season. Brooke Susac made 19 saves for the Kangaroos (6-7-1).

Cortland took a 1-0 lead at 10:51 of the middle period when King deflected the puck at the far boards in the neutral zone to Kolb, who skated in on net. Susac made the initial save but the rebound went right to Rose, who backhanded home what proved to be the game winner.

The Red Dragons doubled their lead less than four minutes later when Calamari tipped the puck away defensively and skated in on the breakaway beating Susac across the face of the goal over the stick for a short-handed score.

In the third period, Canton pulled Susac for an extra skater with 1:22 remaining but could not get a shot past Farmer.
